Web Cam Again

Thanks to George Dohner for inadvertently pointing out the fact tonight that I hadn’t checked on the web cam recently — it has been down and the last updated picture was on the 12th! (Seriously, George only pointed out that the web cam was not working, the rest was my own observation….)

Al and I took a look at the hardware and figured it was the modem, so I brought it home and fired it up and the modem connected. Looks like it’s not the modem but possibly the phone line or wiring. I kinda wish it was the modem because the fix would be easy — now it is back to the trailer to troubleshoot again. Hopefully we will have it back online soon. In the meantime, ride by the site or watch the video before the service on Sunday.

Phase 2, Excitement, and Ministry Ponderings

One of the things that becomes more clear is that–even with just this first phase–we will have more space than we currently have in all three buildings combined. Our current site contains about 27,000 square feet, while the new Phase 1 building holds 33,000 square feet.

You’ll be hearing more in coming months from members of our building team about hopes to move immediately to construction of phase 2 once we move into Phase 1. When Phase 2 is completed, it will add another 19,000 square feet of classroom and office space, giving us almost twice the square footage as available at our current site.

So . . . as we began to say several years ago (and then stopped saying when the project encountered delays) the excitement is building!

Along with the growing excitement, though, comes the realization of the many more opportunities for ministry our new facility will make possible. Discussions are heating up about providing things like day care, after school ministries, sports leagues, and other community outreach.

At the same time, we’re becoming increasingly aware of the need for more internal ministry teams to do things like provide hospitality in the parking lot (which is BIGmore than 3 times as much parking as we have on-site currently!), greeters, and teams to set up and take down 600+ chairs every weekend to transform the multi-purpose room into a spiritual space for worship.

I hope you are beginning to catch the excitement (it is infectious). But I also hope you are prayerfully seeking to discern where God is leading you to be in ministry–both by inviting friends and neighbors to experience God’s love through Glen Mar (a whole lot easier to do once we have more space, but we need to begin now!) and by considering what God may be calling you to do as part of the new ministries required and made possible by our new facility.

Hot August

Today Spirit of Faith started the process of putting in Central Air for the Education Wing.  The A/C compressors were place on the roof top today and they will be working on the ducting in the coming weeks.

Pray & Walk

Today we held our first official Pray and Walk opportunities up on the new site. The first was at 6:00 a.m. in the morning. Their were six of us. I shared the Psalm reading from this weeks Lectionary Readings: Psalm 107: 1 - 9. As we walked through the upper parking lot we stopped to answer questions and pray. We focused our prayers on the need at this new site for a “Parking Lot Ministry”. This would be a call to those who enjoy providing hospitality through helping to park cars and shuttle folks to the front door. A prayer for those who would be willing to help raise funds to buy golf carts to enable the shuttles and those who would be the first line of welcoming to our new home.

After we finished most stayed and continued on with their usual Wednesday morning Bible Study around tables set up in the parking lot.

In the evening at 6:00 p.m. we held our second Pray & Walk with 4 people showing up. Since the construction workers had all gone home we were able to walk through the lower part of the actual building to stop and pray in various sections as we toured. Two of the walkers braved climbing the dirt hill for the best view of the site.

Good Evening

Tonight Trustees met up on the site and took a tour of the new facilities under construction. As we ended our time together we were privileged to enjoy God’s creation all around us as particularly exemplified by this beautiful sunset across our new front lawn.
