The trusses for the second floor of the Education Wing have been put in place. Here is a photo of the unloading of the flooring (this stuff goes over the trusses and then the cement is poured on top to make the floor)

Here are some views of the second floor trusses

and looking up from inside the first level

Phase 2 Photos
July 9, 2009 by Larry Resch.
I know I have been saying that the photos are posted and they haven’t been. Well, here they are!
15 May 2009: Here is a view from “Mount Glen Mar” of the muddy work digging out for the foundation.

4 June 2009: The concrete pumper is starting to pour some concrete - again it is raining…

13 June 2009: The poured exterior walls are going in. The walls are poured in sections and once they set, the workers move the forms to a new section. Here is the work so far - notice in the background the cinder block walls are also going up.

And here are some of the workers getting the forms ready for the next pour…

2 July 2009: The interior and exterior walls for the lower level are done and the floor has been poured and finished.

Ready To Move Dirt!
March 8, 2009 by Dan Kagey.
We’re ready to move some dirt! As you may have noticed, Plano Coudon has moved their construction trailer on to our property to start the construction of the Educational Wing. Soon you will see a chain link fence go up on the North side of the walkway leading from the unfinished parking lot, keeping our children safe from the construction hazards. Heavy equipment will use only the strip of road in front of that parking lot, and construction workers will use that lot for their personal parking. All the permits and financing are in place. Expect bulldozers soon. We will do our best to communicate with the contractor to minimize interferences with normal church operations but you can help us do that by making sure the church office has clear advanced notice of any potential conflict, especially during weekday events.
The scope of the project….. about a 9-10 month build plus a month or two of “owner furnishing” and moving in. But after the new wing building is complete, there will still be additional construction for the parking lot road completion and the renovation of what is now the child-care center into future choir rooms. Child care will move into its new-digs, a large, well equipped suite on the main floor just inside the new wing. We will post floor plans of the new wing in the Welcome Center and near the Architectural Mock-up for your viewing.
Other related news, by this posting, we will have employed a part time program manager to be our advocate throughout this phase of building. We are planning the permanent signs on MD103 to show the world our new home, but have erected the refurbished old GM signs temporarily at our driveway entrance until more permanent ones can be designed near the Phase II completion.
What about the road? No change from last month…except the weather is getting much better. Oak has the go ahead to complete the road. So we expect that completion real soon. Old New Cut will become “right in and right out” only, and renamed Bauger Farm Road. That will at least open the door for a state re-evaluation of our intersection for a traffic light.
Fell free to ask me or anyone from the Building team for details.

The latest update from Dan Kagey, Building Team chair
The Glen Mar Building Team has passed another of the minor hurdles to break
ground on the Phase II Educational Wing. Tuesday night, the building team
presented their growth vision, construction, and financial plans to the
Baltimore Conference District Board of Church Location and Building
committee. Their approval is a necessary step in that the conference is
ultimately a stake-holder in any Methodist construction process. The
committee praised our plan, gave their approval to our loan process and
celebrated in our outreach ministries to our community. Next step: grading
permit within a week or so which will allow our contractor to start
construction.
